SHARE brings people together to build and strengthen community through volunteer service by providing access to good, nutritious food at affordable prices. We are committed to supporting local neighborhood host sites in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Illinois and Missouri where all may participate, serve and lead with dignity.

Q. What does SHARE stand for?
A. Self Help and Resource Exchange.

Q. Can I join SHARE Iowa?
A. YES! SHARE is for everyone. There are no age, income, or membership requirements. In fact, the more people who participate the more purchasing power we have.

Q. Does SHARE Iowa require anything of me?
A. Each month hundreds of volunteers come together to organize and distribute food packages in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Illinois, Missouri and Kansas. SHARE Iowa takes pride in our commitment to build stronger communities with affordable food and volunteer service. We hope that our dedication will inspire you to become actively involved in your community. Even though there are no requirements to purchase food through SHARE, we encourage participants to volunteer with their local SHARE site or elsewhere in their community. There are many ways to share your time and talents. Ideas include: helping a neighbor, friendly visits, activities with your church or other local organizations, Scouts, Volunteer Fire Dept., etc. the list is endless.

Q. What does SHARE Iowa offer?
A. SHARE Iowa offers nutritious food packages including meats, grocery items, fresh fruits and vegetables, and even desserts. There are several packages to choose from each month. These packages are always changing as we look for new and different items.

Q. What is the cost to me?
A. SHARE Iowa offers packages up to 50% off the supermarket prices. You can pay by cash, check, EBT or online using Pay Pal.

Q. Where does SHARE Iowa food come from?
A. Every month SHARE purchases wholesome, nutritious foods. Some products are name brands such as Oscar Mayer and Sara Lee and some are packaged in

Q. How do I get started in SHARE?
A. SHARE Iowa has over 130 sponsored sites across Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Illinois, Missouri and Kansas. Click on the "pick up locations" tab to find a host site near you or call 1-800-344-1107 for details.

Q. Who can participate?
A. Anyone who eats can participate.

Q. What are the food distribution dates?
A. Most of our host sites distribute food orders on Saturdays. Check with your host site for their distribution time. 2011 Distribution Dates are listed on this website.

Q. How can I volunteer to help with SHARE?
A. Contact your local hosting organization, or drop in to meet them on a distribution day and see what SHARE is all about.

Q. Can I pay for my food with food stamps/EBT card?
A. Yes. You can pay for your food packages with your food stamp/ebt card.

Q. Why doesnt my host site accept checks?
A. If your host site does not accept checks it is because they cannot risk the bank charges for bounced checks. SHARE is a nonprofit organization. We cannot afford to pay extra bank charges and we will not pass this expense on to our customers as commercial organizations do.

Q. What is the Best Value Package like?
A. It varies from month to month, but it always contains fresh fruits and vegetables, grocery and meat items. There are also other packages available. Click "on the menu" tab to see what packages we are offering this month.

Q. How can I place a food order after the distribution date?
A. Most people purchase their package(s) for the next month when they pick up their orders on distribution day. Sometimes this is not convenient for everyone, so most host sites have an alternate date and time in which you can purchase your food. Check with your local site for the specific date, time and location for placing late orders.

Q. What if I can not pick up my order on distribution day?
A. Send a friend, neighbor, or relative to pick up your order. Give them your yellow receipt or paypal receipt to present to the host site.
